Treasure Tray- Creative Connection

Hey Creative Souls!

A few weekends ago I did this fast little project and thought I would share with you..

What I used was an old part of a wooden dress-up doll set my niece had. It was going to be thrown away/recycled. But I saw potential for it to hold treasures!

Many of the craft stores would have a similar idea (though you may have to get a tray and a few smaller boxes/trays to go inside of it) you might also be able to find something at a garage sale or thrift store!

I simply dusted it off

Painted it gray, or of course you could use any color!  (it took at least 2 layers) I used an inexpensive craft paint from the craft store (under $2)

Let it dry

Touched up where needed

Displayed my treasures. (see the top image, that’s the after!)

Mine could also be called an altar, but a treasure try (filled with whatever pretty, meaningful things you want) is a great way to describe it as well!

Sometimes you just have to be open to the possibilities or a new perspective for an item or a space or so many other areas these words could be applied to!

Creative Jewelry Display- Creative Connection

Hey, Inspiring Souls!

I wanted to share some “creative jewelry” organization with you all. I felt the need to mix it up a bit with my jewelry display and organization.  I found a little peg board from the dollar section at Target ($3) I wasn’t sure what I wanted to use it for exactly at first but then decided that I wanted to shift most of my bracelets there! As soon as I saw the ampersand in Michael’s I knew I wanted to use it for earrings!

Some other fun displays I have used: A key rack/hooks to organize/hang necklaces. The great thing about this stuff is that it can all be used in multiple ways if you no longer need or want it for what it’s currently being used to organize/display. A mini cupcake stand/candy dish to put my malas, earrings bits of jewelry in.

What fun, creative ways do you organize?

No wrong way, Visual Journal – Creative Connection

Hey Beautiful Souls,

One of the practices that keeps me grounded is keeping a visual journal. I love that there is no wrong way to do it, that its ready when you are and the intentional or intuitive messages  it holds and bits of life.

This practice is really forgiving, you can work in them daily, weekly, monthly or randomly (anywhere in between!).

Sometimes my words flow with the image are inspired by it before or after. Sometimes the messages I didn’t know I needed to hear show up. Sometimes I just put down a pretty picture and spew out what’s on my mind.

Glue, Doodle, Paint etc.. it’s all welcome in this practice. It’s your expression there is not a way to do it wrong. If you are showing up it’s exactly what it needs to be for you for now.
what’s a practice do you love?

Vision Board- Creative Connection

Hey Creative Souls,

Welcome to a new year and a new column on my blog! I realized that while I deeply believe in creativity and that is part of what I wanted to share on this blog, I have not shared much of my creativity or ideas to help support yours. At least not as much as I would like. So that changes today!

The image above is my vision board for 2017! It was done on a large poster board (that I cut down a bit) and now resides on my closet door in our living room space/my “office” space.

I feel it encompasses what I want to create this year better than the ones I have created the last few years. (And represents  my heart resolutions for this year: Nourish, Truth, and Release)

A few tips for creating one of your own:

  1. If the term vision board tweaks you out, think of creating an inspiration board instead.
  2. Gather images and words that you feel called to and ones that fit with the words, heart resolutions, goals you have either decided on or you feel deeply pulled towards.
  3. Choose a place to glue them. A poster board (you can get them for under a dollar in all sorts of fun colors!) You can also glue them in a journal, use a corkboard, file folder etc..
  4. Many times I have just started gluing, other times I like to set up where I am going to glue what (take a pic) then start gluing. Choose what feels right for you.
  5. Put it somewhere you will see it all the time. Take a deep breath and a moment to soak it in on a regular basis.
  6. For me it was many images, for you, it might be one image and one word that really encompasses what you want to do, create, explore and accomplish this year. Really there is not a right or wrong way to do this.
  7. If cutting and gluing truly is not your thing, then I would encourage you to create a vision board using Pinterest (you can make it secret) I actually create a board for each year essentially to gather tips, ideas, inspiration for the year.

Do you make one?  Are you planning on making one?
