Thoughts on the rest of this year… and embracing what you need

Hey Beautiful Souls,

For some, this time of year might feel magical, full of hope and reflection. For others, for whatever reason (loss of a loved one, finance issues, family stress etc…) this might not feel like anything but something else you have to get through…

So here’s what I think many of us need… and truly we can only get it from ourselves but sometimes having others remind us that it’s not just you, you are not alone and that what you are feeling is legit and you are worthy no matter what, well sometimes that’s what we need a permission of sorts.

Do the holidays your way as much as you can, just because you have always done something a certain way doesn’t mean that it feels right for you and yours this year. Honor what you most need and leave the rest as much as you can.

I have been used to doing all sorts of reflection at the end of the year… I am not doing that this year. I will stick with a few traditions/prompts and leave the rest until next year, or the year after that or maybe never… I will decide as I come to it. I am going to say it again… Do what feels right for YOU and when appropriate you and yours. For this year, I am only writing a letter to the year, instead of doing the type of vision board I have done in the past I am creating an inspiration/vision board that supports my core desired feelings (something similar that I have done for years and years but supported and inspired more deeply by Danielle LaPorte’s process)

I will be continuing to create space, choose a word (or words) to support me in the year to come, I will choose just a few focuses on what I really want to create, instead of a bunch of ones to fill up space, I will likely continue to collect more journals, books and art supplies that I will use in that year, I will continue to allow space for the tenderness of grief and the tenderness of allowing my truth to unfold, I will work on connecting to the small bits of beauty and practices that support me and I will also likely let overwhelm, uknowns and other stuff get me down for a while, then I will get back up. I will continue to ponder how to live the lessons and hopefully, in that pondering, I will be living some of those lessons full out… I will give myself grace and I will likely be too hard on myself and overthink sometimes too… I will remind myself that I am held, guided and supported even if doesn’t look the way I thought it would.

So, trust yourself, forgive yourself, show up for yourself and allow what it is you need to guide you right now. And give yourself permission to fully embrace your contradictions.

Who you are vs…. Journal Prompt

Hey Lovely Souls!

This weeks prompt is inspired by (taken from) this inspirational saying I saw the other day….

Is what you are doing supporting who you want to be? Are you even clear on who you want to be?

Don’t just keep letting life and others and circumstances to decide who that is.  Sure those things are part of shaping who we are and who we will become. But we can’t allow those to be the only factors or we build our life on falseness and not truth.

17 Awesome things to try in 2017

work-to-become

  1. Sign up for Creativebug.com they have a ton of classes and are incredibly affordable. ($5 a month)
  2. Try a 30 day Yoga Challenge (doyouyoga.com has one for free)
  3. Try a 30 Meditation challenge (doyouyoga.com also has this for free!)
  4. Project 365 or project 52 photo a day or photo a week for the year (I am doing 365 again this year after years of not really trying to do so!)
  5. Spend 5 minutes daily on your finances. (5-minute finance check-ins is something I am putting into place this year!)
  6. Sign up for a reading challenge (I am attempting 32 books at least this year!)
  7. A new recipe, or once a week, month, season.
  8. Visual Journaling (I happen to have a course  that I created here!)
  9.  Don’t complain for 24 hours (this is something I am going to attempt, likely several times lol)
  10. Work with a Coach (My current offerings in supporting you!)
  11. Go on to Udemy.com  and sign up for a class on a skill you think would be fun to learn or would support your other desires this year.
  12. A blog, YouTube Channel, Podcast. A way to share your ideas with others!
  13. Try a new “look” maybe it’s switching up your accessories, getting a new hairstyle or color, revamping your wardrobe or getting one or two pieces you love but are not your usual.
  14. Explore the various ways to move your body to support your well-being. Dance, walk, YouTube videos, in person classes, a group, In Home Yoga, Dancing to your own beat!
  15. Try asking for what you want a little more often. Start small if this feels intimidating to you. If you go out to eat and someone says where do you feel like going.. if you do have an opinion then speak it! Sometimes the person we need to be the most honest with about our needs and desires is ourselves.. start there if that this feels true for you. Ask yourself what I Really need is, what I really want is…
  16. We are surrounded by so many choices. One thing you might try this year is to limit yourself. This can be a personal challenge of not spending anything (unnecessary) for a day, week, month. It could also be not allowing the overwhelm of all your supplies to stop you from starting…Pare down your supplies and dive in!
  17. Making a practice of telling yourself what you appreciate about you (daily and in the mirror would be even more powerful, but start with what feels right)

What are some awesome things you might want to try in 2017?

Dear 2016… A year end ritual.

img_9659

Hey Lovely Souls,

For the last 3+ years, I have written a letter to the year as it comes to a close. It’s a great way to reflect upon what the year has held.
This year I almost decided to just write… Dear 2016, WTF?! or Dear 2016, Seriously?!
However, I decided I wanted to expand upon that 🙂
So here it goes…
Dear 2016,
You went by so fast, while you felt like the fastest year yet, you also felt like you held several years in one.
You held so much big change. Change for me, my family and frankly, the world.  Between moves (merging households), connection, division,  multiple health issues for family,(including a major health crisis) and the election you shifted everything. Some ways I can see clearly and some I am still finding my way to and through.
You were full of so much loss for many people on many different levels.
You taught me on a different level what really matters, you gave me some wake-up calls (really one would have been sufficient!) You exhausted me and pushed me.
You are still teaching me to adjust to these new circumstances after years and years of doing it differently. I am still slowly learning to respond instead of reacting.
You also gave me some truly beautiful gifts. A deeper trust in my gut, she is wise and I intend to listen and nourish my connection to her on a more intentional, soulful level. Tender moments amidst the crises. Courage to use my voice where it mattered, Chances to reevaluate how I show up, chances to step up. Connections with people I care about.  Also, you gave me so many of the seemingly small and simple moments surrounded by the beauty of everyday life. Thank You for these and so much more.
The thought of wanting a do over has crossed my mind. But what I really want is to tuck these lessons in my toolbelt of truthful living and to do better, to do differently and to take all that beauty and to apply it to help co-create a beautiful 2017 and beyond. (preferably without all of the various moments of “drama” to get the point across this time, please and thanks!)
Thank You Truly and Deeply,
Heather

PS: What would your letter to the year say?

Heya Beautiful Souls!

As we rapidly approach the end of 2016 (part of me is thankful, it’s been a really intense year in SO many ways and another part of me is like whoa how did that happen and I so not ready yet!) This is the time of year that many of us like  to reflect and to start dreaming for the year ahead. In fact, I have usually done a lot more of this by now, but life has been a bit hectic and being in denial of the time of year doesn’t help lol.

In This post, I go over ways and questions and ways to reflect on your year.  I find this a really important part of the process.

So with this year holding so much for so many of us. We are bound to unintentionally take some of the heaviness into the new year with us. So I thought we would look at a few ways to release before we go into the new year. Now don’t get me wrong, often within these things we are letting go of were lessons, beauty, and realizations. Let’s capture those as well… However what I am suggesting we intentionally release is the judgment or heaviness around these things as best we can.

A few ways to release…

  1. Write a goodbye letter to those things. Dear ___ it’s time for me to let you go. Thank  You for the (lesson, beauty, wake-up call etc.. ) However, I am ready to release the hold you have on me…  fill in any more feelings, vent it out…give it a piece of your mind. Seriously.. this might feel a little strange but is a great way to release. Now burn it.. (safely of course) if you can’t or don’t feel comfortable doing that… Rip it up into tiny pieces and throw it away but do so saying Thank You, Goodbye and I am ready to move forward while taking the lessons and beauty that you gave me.
  2. Get a bottle of kids bubbles.. stay with me here 🙂 and go outside.. preferably where you have a little space to really speak out loud…Now as you blow the bubbles name the things you are letting go of.. visualize when those bubbles pop that’s the hold they have on you disappearing.
  3. Create a list of things, beliefs and people you want to let go of… Sometimes simply naming it feels like you have loosened your grip and create some space in your life for what and who truly feels aligned.

Be on the look out this week for prompts and ideas for creating an inspired year.

This Month I want to…Welcome December

img_8919

Hey Beautiful Souls!

Welcome to December! Can you believe it? As usual, I am surprised by how fast time is flying by, seriously!

I love lists, so at the start of every month I make a list of things I need, want and would like to get done, create, experience etc… I created a free printable for it (scroll down a bit on the page..) as well if you want to download that. It’s easy to let the days run you instead of ever feeling like it’s the other way around. Making lists of intentions, things I want to savor etc. is one thing that helps keep checked in!

December can be full for so many reasons.. if you only have time for one question then let it be this… How do I want to feel this month, then before you say a yes to something or a no…check in with that feeling.. does it take you closer to it or further away?

If you love journaling or want to start digging into it a bit more be on the lookout this month for posts on reflection and dreaming/planning.
