Make that appointment- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Lovely Soul!

A part of self-care that is not often talked about is medical/health self-care. Many of us likely have some health-related appointment that we are putting off (aka: Avoiding!) maybe it’s your yearly check up, dental visit, labs you need to get, talking to your doctor about some issue you have been having, finding a doctor…

Following through with this is the ultimate self-care.

So today(if you are reading this on Saturday at the least put it in your planner to make the appointment if you can’t call and leave a message or do the research you need to) make that appointment you have been avoiding!

Set yourself up for success- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Inspiring Souls,

Life is full in many ways for most of us. One way to help us create the life we seek to live (even in the smallest ways, whatever that means to you) is to set ourselves up for success.

Some ways to do that might be:

  • Choose your clothes the night before
  • Write a menu
  • Meal plan
  • Prep some blog posts ahead
  • Start planning holiday “stuff” now
  • Have the healthier food in your fridge and cabinets so it’s easier to make choices that feel more aligned to you.
  • Make the appointments you need to make.
  • Plan your week
  • Write some intentions and goals for the month.

Those are some ways to set yourself up for success, it helps you create the time, headspace to dive into what actually needs your attention.

Add a little beauty- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Beautiful Souls,

I believe that surrounding ourselves with even tiny spots or bits of beauty is an act of self-care.

Some ways you might explore this:

  • Buy (or pick) yourself some flowers
  • Clear off one tiny space somewhere in your home or work
  • Take a pretty bowl or mug that you don’t use that often and re purpose it (pen holder, candy dish,
  • Look at yourself in the mirror and express appreciation for yourself (that is definitely adding beauty to your life!)
  • Print a picture off of your phone (and if you don’t have a picture that speaks beauty to you, go out and take one!) and put it (or them if you print out more than one) on your wall with washi, a frame or propped up against something. Alternatively, go through a magazine (that is yours!)  and rip out a beautiful picture and put it on the wall with washi, get a frame or buy a clipboard from the dollar store and put it on there.
  • Use the “special occasion” dishes or item, life is a special occasion.
  • Put on something that you feel is beautiful or makes you feel beautiful. It can be an entire outfit or as simple as jewelry or under garments that add a bit of beauty to how you feel!

How will you put beauty into your life this weekend/week?

Ask- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Beautiful Soul,

Self- Care is really multi layered and individual, what it looks and feels like will fluctuate as your life shifts and goes through various seasons. And while I just love lists and I love ideas of what self-care looks like in various areas for all sorts of life circumstances. (and I will continue to share those ideas) I am learning more and more that this question is the key to right fit self-care.

Ask yourself what you most need right now (mind, body, spirit/Soul or any one or combination of those) and then do your best to honor that/those answers.

List it – Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Inspiring Soul!

It sounds too simple to be true. Making lists can be an act of self-care. I really believe this to be true. I could go on and on and on about lists and the various type to make. I will save some of those for another post! Here are some ways to use list as an act of self-care.

  1. Brain dump lists: When we get on overwhelm it’s easy to feel like we have to have it all figured out like, yesterday! When we feel like this all of that stuff can get jumbled in our heads and feel even more overwhelming. Often the simple act of writing it out helps to put things into perspective and help us feel calmer. This is simply a list that holds the things that you have on your mind, no order, no categories simply dumping it on paper!
  2. Create an inspiration list, self-care acts list, gratitude list.
  3. List your priorities (in general, for the day…)  now look at how you are spending your day do those two support or oppose one another? Adjust accordingly where you can.
  4. List things you appreciate about yourself, where you have rocked it lately.
  5. While I love to create to do lists. A list that can be really wonderful to make is a to be list. (ex: calm, focused, kind, gentle, energetic etc… )
  6. Break it down… Do you have a specific task or project? Make a list to break it down into tiny steps.
  7. List meals for the week (and or health actions)

Affirmations- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey, Beautiful Souls!

We often, without even realizing it are speaking words of defeat and negativity to ourselves, about ourselves. Our words, even when “said” in our own heads have so much power.

A beautiful act of self-care is saying affirming things to yourself… Ask yourself what you need… words of comfort, reassurance, empowerment?

Here are a few to get you started, feel free of course to tweak or add any words that feel more aligned with what you are seeking to affirm. Also, you can google affirmations or affirmations for….

  • You’ve got this (and if you can say this while looking in the mirror)
  • I am guided, I am held (eyes closed, hand on heart)
  • I commit to the me I truly desire to be
  • My body is a wise advisor, I listen to what is being said with curiosity and compassion
  • This to shall pass
