Tending to your Heart Health- Saturday Self and Soul Care

Saturday Self and Soul care:

Tending to your Heart Health…

One of the things I have chosen to be a voice/advocate for is Heart Health. Knowledge is power, ignorance is NOT bliss. One of the biggest ways we can engage in self-care is to take care of our health. That doesn’t mean that we necessarily make huge changes all at once. What it does (or can mean) is that you get empowered about your own health. Some ways to do that (plus some links on heart health that may be helpful to you and yours…)

What are your numbers (Cholesterol, BP)

Eat heart healthier foods, consider the amount of sodium that is in the things you eat.

Talk to your doctor about your risks, symptoms, health goals.

Move your body more

Find ways to reduce stress in your days.

Get your checkups

If something feels off, trust yourself and speak up.

Here are some links about Heart Health. And another.Give yourself and your loved ones the gift of taking the time and making the changes (even if tiny moves at first!) that will support you and a healthy (or healthier) heart.

Permission- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey, Amazing Souls!

So many of us are living lives that are fulfilling what we think is expected of us. Sometimes it’s what we were told, what we

Give yourself permission to…

To scan over a book and skip through bits and considered it read (unless your trying to do a book report :D)

To unplug

To binge watch

To try out that “woo woo” practice

To stick to what works and what feels really good

To ask for what you really want or need (this goes for asking yourself too)

To have a spontaneous dance party (of 1 or more)

To use the good stuff (ingredients, dishes, makeup, clothes, ideas) and stop trying to save it for….

To stop reading those personal growth books (blogs, articles etc)

To keep on reading those personal growth books (blogs, articles etc)  because you truly love it!

To add flowers and plants to your place even if you don’t have a green thumb and they may not thrive and that’s ok… enjoy it while it’s there!

To do this holiday season in a way that feels right to you, even if it’s not what your tradition has been or what’s expected of you.

You have permission to… (fill in with whatever is tugging at you!)

Make that appointment- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Lovely Soul!

A part of self-care that is not often talked about is medical/health self-care. Many of us likely have some health-related appointment that we are putting off (aka: Avoiding!) maybe it’s your yearly check up, dental visit, labs you need to get, talking to your doctor about some issue you have been having, finding a doctor…

Following through with this is the ultimate self-care.

So today(if you are reading this on Saturday at the least put it in your planner to make the appointment if you can’t call and leave a message or do the research you need to) make that appointment you have been avoiding!

Set yourself up for success- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Inspiring Souls,

Life is full in many ways for most of us. One way to help us create the life we seek to live (even in the smallest ways, whatever that means to you) is to set ourselves up for success.

Some ways to do that might be:

  • Choose your clothes the night before
  • Write a menu
  • Meal plan
  • Prep some blog posts ahead
  • Start planning holiday “stuff” now
  • Have the healthier food in your fridge and cabinets so it’s easier to make choices that feel more aligned to you.
  • Make the appointments you need to make.
  • Plan your week
  • Write some intentions and goals for the month.

Those are some ways to set yourself up for success, it helps you create the time, headspace to dive into what actually needs your attention.

Add a little beauty- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Beautiful Souls,

I believe that surrounding ourselves with even tiny spots or bits of beauty is an act of self-care.

Some ways you might explore this:

  • Buy (or pick) yourself some flowers
  • Clear off one tiny space somewhere in your home or work
  • Take a pretty bowl or mug that you don’t use that often and re purpose it (pen holder, candy dish,
  • Look at yourself in the mirror and express appreciation for yourself (that is definitely adding beauty to your life!)
  • Print a picture off of your phone (and if you don’t have a picture that speaks beauty to you, go out and take one!) and put it (or them if you print out more than one) on your wall with washi, a frame or propped up against something. Alternatively, go through a magazine (that is yours!)  and rip out a beautiful picture and put it on the wall with washi, get a frame or buy a clipboard from the dollar store and put it on there.
  • Use the “special occasion” dishes or item, life is a special occasion.
  • Put on something that you feel is beautiful or makes you feel beautiful. It can be an entire outfit or as simple as jewelry or under garments that add a bit of beauty to how you feel!

How will you put beauty into your life this weekend/week?

Ask- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Beautiful Soul,

Self- Care is really multi layered and individual, what it looks and feels like will fluctuate as your life shifts and goes through various seasons. And while I just love lists and I love ideas of what self-care looks like in various areas for all sorts of life circumstances. (and I will continue to share those ideas) I am learning more and more that this question is the key to right fit self-care.

Ask yourself what you most need right now (mind, body, spirit/Soul or any one or combination of those) and then do your best to honor that/those answers.
