List it – Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey Inspiring Soul!

It sounds too simple to be true. Making lists can be an act of self-care. I really believe this to be true. I could go on and on and on about lists and the various type to make. I will save some of those for another post! Here are some ways to use list as an act of self-care.

  1. Brain dump lists: When we get on overwhelm it’s easy to feel like we have to have it all figured out like, yesterday! When we feel like this all of that stuff can get jumbled in our heads and feel even more overwhelming. Often the simple act of writing it out helps to put things into perspective and help us feel calmer. This is simply a list that holds the things that you have on your mind, no order, no categories simply dumping it on paper!
  2. Create an inspiration list, self-care acts list, gratitude list.
  3. List your priorities (in general, for the day…)  now look at how you are spending your day do those two support or oppose one another? Adjust accordingly where you can.
  4. List things you appreciate about yourself, where you have rocked it lately.
  5. While I love to create to do lists. A list that can be really wonderful to make is a to be list. (ex: calm, focused, kind, gentle, energetic etc… )
  6. Break it down… Do you have a specific task or project? Make a list to break it down into tiny steps.
  7. List meals for the week (and or health actions)

Affirmations- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hey, Beautiful Souls!

We often, without even realizing it are speaking words of defeat and negativity to ourselves, about ourselves. Our words, even when “said” in our own heads have so much power.

A beautiful act of self-care is saying affirming things to yourself… Ask yourself what you need… words of comfort, reassurance, empowerment?

Here are a few to get you started, feel free of course to tweak or add any words that feel more aligned with what you are seeking to affirm. Also, you can google affirmations or affirmations for….

  • You’ve got this (and if you can say this while looking in the mirror)
  • I am guided, I am held (eyes closed, hand on heart)
  • I commit to the me I truly desire to be
  • My body is a wise advisor, I listen to what is being said with curiosity and compassion
  • This to shall pass

Play- Self and Soul Care Saturday

Hi Amazing one!

When was the last time that you played? No seriously, when was it? Chances are it’s been a while!

Playing is an amazing stress reliever! Just do yourself a favor, go in with no real expectations, no results needed. Just simply play!

Play will look different for each of us in some ways I am sure, however here are some ideas.

  1. Blow bubbles… (yup, with that little wand and that messy liquid just. Play “bonus” points if you chase after or try to catch some of them!
  2. Get $5 and some kids art supplies and make a mess, explore watercolor, fingerpaint, doodle, get crayons and some paper and do rubbings of random things you find!
  3. Play with your food… feel like swirling up your ice cream, crushing up your cookies in your milk, having a mini food fight… go for it!
  4. Get some sidewalk chalk and make a hopscotch pattern or play a giant game of tic tac toe!
  5. Warm enough outside, engage in a water balloon “fight” still rainy and “funky” outside.. jump in a puddle of water or mud!
  6. Go to a thrift store and gather several crazy, out of your style items and play dress up!
  7. Read a fun book out loud in various voices.
  8. Chase your shadow, make shadow puppets, take a picture of the funniest or biggest shadow you can capture!
  9. Get on a swing, kick your feet in the sand!

Heya, Beautiful Souls!

It’s easy to get stuck in a self-care rut, either avoiding it or just going through the motions but not really engaging in things that really feed us.

So this week, let’s look at what self and soul care you are craving, what your desires are around it and what are your absolute basics.

  1. My very basics of self and soul care are…
  2. What my body, mind, soul are needing right now are…
  3. Self and soul care that I would love to do but can’t…. (now what are one or two feelings or bits you can take from those and break it down, simplify it) can those be added into your self an soul care inspiration -go to list?
  4. Is the self and soul care I am engaging in now are really nourishing and supporting me?

Now take at least one tiny thing insight, action etc from this exploration and schedule it in or better yet dive into it today!

Connect with nature- Self and Soul Care Saturday

img_8193

Hey, Lovely Souls!

This week’s self and soul care practice is to connect with nature.

This will likely look different for each of us. However, here are some ideas for ways you might connect with nature today, this weekend etc…

  1. Open the windows, let some breeze and fresh air in.
  2. Get a plant or some flowers and bring nature inside.
  3. Go outside for even 10 minutes and notice (maybe you feel like capturing through your lens) the flowers, trees, sky, clouds.
  4. Go to the beach (if you happen to have one near!)
  5. Go for a walk around your neighborhood
  6. Sit outside for 5 minutes and just close your eyes and feel the breeze.

Those are some ways to start connecting with nature, what are your favorite ways?

Back to Basics- Self and Soul Care Saturday

img_7488

Hey, Lovely Soul!

This week for “Self and Soul Care Saturday” I want to look at the basics of self-care. This might differ for each of us.

Look life is crazy maybe it’s a family health issue, a move, getting used to the new dynamic of things, the state of politics,

What are your self-care basics? Those things that you go will/can go back to again and again.  I encourage you to make a list of those someone in your planner on your phone or someplace else you can reference the easily.

Your basics may include some of these ideas…

  • Shower
  • Deep belly breaths
  • Hydrating
  • Exercise
  • Vitamins
  • Nourishing meal
  • Meditation/Prayer/Stillness

Your list might include tea, music, journaling or any other number of “Basics”  If even these basics seem to be eluding you choose one or two and start putting them into place. Create a list of the ones you ultimately want on your basics list.

Stilness- Saturday Self and Soul Care

img_9461

Hey Beautiful Souls,

Life and the world is busy and noisy (even if that’s good busy and good noisy sometimes!) It’s a lot for our systems to keep taking in to process.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I get overwhelmed, I lean towards numbing (spacing out on various websites (<my numbing of choice!) , tv, games semi zoned out) And while vegging out isn’t a bad thing sometimes, numbing is not nourishing or empowering. It does the opposite.

One way to really ground ourselves is to allow space for Stillness…

Some ways to create stillness are…

  • Listen to a song, eyes closed and only that
  • Put  your hand on your heart and listen to and follow your breath
  • Do “Childs Pose” (my favorite way to stillness)
  • Sit outside and just listen to the sounds around you, watch whatever bit of nature you can.
