Looking at it differently- Creative Prompt

IMG_0017

Hey Creative Souls!

I have found myself in the last few months not slowing to capture the inspiration around me. When I am not opening myself to that I feel a disconnect from myself. So recently I have been trying to look at things a bit differently around me.

One of the ways I have done that is by capturing images of things that I am around all the time, just with looking at them a bit differently. Closer up on the details, different angles, noticing the texture or color. Anyplace is a great place to do this, but a space I will encourage you to do this is in your home.

That’s where I have been digging into this practice the most lately.

Choose at least 1 thing in your home and explore what inspires you about it. Get a different perspective. This is a great way to remind ourselves what in our home inspires us. It’s easy to take it for granted or to look at all that is not the way we want and not even really notice what is inspiring and beautiful. If you find resistance choose a few things and just play with the angles and details.

Are your eyes and heart open to what inspiration and beauty is all around you?

Take some time this week to notice, with your camera (mine being my camera phone) or simply just noticing it and appreciating it.

Creative Prompt-Photograph Hope

Hey Creative Souls!

I know so many people who are just going through such a tough time lately and I wish I could make it all better for them. In tough times one thing I know it can be hard to hold onto is Hope. So today I want to encourage you to capture signs of hope around you.

Capture signs of hope around you through the lens (remember it can be on your phone or any type of camera)

I would love it if you shared with me as well! What hope do you see around you? For me it was tiny buds of leaves starting to sprout on the tree outside of my window, hope of spring and change in the midst of the stormy weather.

Inspiration Through the Lens...

Grounded-Inspiration through the lens..

Hey Lovely Souls!

You may or may have not noticed over the course of this blog I love pictures of feet, I like taking pictures of my feet. It actually started one day running across this blog. And then I took on online course of hers and that just furthered my fascination with it. It represents the path I am on, where I stand, what I stand for, what I seek, where I have been and where I want to go. I know that is a lot to read into a picture of my feet, but that is what I feel! Plus I think it’s cute ;-D and if it makes me happy and it’s not harming anyone isn’t that reason enough?

So that is what I am sharing in this weeks Inspiration through the lens.. Grounded

What about you, do you have any particular images you are drawn to? Do you collect, capture or do a series of them?

Inspiration Hunting and getting to know you.. Part 2

Hey Inspired Souls!

In part 1 of Inspiration hunting and how it can help you get to know you, I give a list of the tools that I have been using to keep inspired and find my voice. The first one I will go into more depth about is Photography.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

–Aaron Siskind

Allowing myself to be a photo nerd is one of the best gifts I have ever given myself. I can’t even tell you all the wonderful moments and creativity it has led me to. It’s opened me up to things I know I would have passed or under appreciated before. It’s funny my Dad told me a while back, at a family gathering we had that when he was looking at me looking around that he could tell I was seeing things around me through the lens, even with out a camera in my hand.. It just opens you up.. it has for me anyways!

It’s not about skill, it’s about heart, what is it that you see that inspires you, moves you, makes you sad, happy, in awe. I have learned that the little things in my everyday inspire me to see the world differently. Through photography you can speak your voice, share your moments, your world.

The way it helps you get to know yourself is that you get to capture and express things the way you see it, feel it, experience it. It can help you notice lines, shapes, colors, objects, people in a new way. I have had the experience when you open yourself up to inspiration in these ways it domino’s on other parts of your life. Inspiration, Joy, Self Expression, just breeds more of the same. That is my experience of it over the last 15 months.

The beauty of the digital photography age ( and the camera phone’s) is that it makes it so you can take bunch’s of pictures, sometimes it takes a bunch to get that one that really express what you want, sometimes you get that in the first shot. Really just have fun with it, give it a try.. Even if you are not sure if it’s for you. Challenge yourself to go an a photo inspiration hunt, what can you see in your surroundings, home, neighborhood in a new and inspired way?

I really hope this encourages and inspires you to pick up any kind of camera and seek inspiration in your everyday.. I would really love if you shared what you find and are inspired by with me. You can do that here or post a link on this post to where it is and I would love to go look!

How Inspiration hunting helps you find you.. Part 1

Hey Creative and Inspired Souls!

This is part 1 of a “mini series” of how Inspiration Hunting can help you get to know yourself better. This is based on of my experience, some of it that has only just come to light for me! I will go into the tools and things that I have used and offer those up as suggestions and when I can ,alternative ideas and ways.

Creativity has been a HUGE part of getting to know myself better this last year and continues to be. In most of the sources I mention below, creativity shows up in some way or another! I have used the following things to learn what really inspires me:

Books

Inspiration Journal

Blogs

Photography

Flickr

Sites to clip from the www like Evernote and my obsession Pinterest

I will go into more of all of these through the mini series and frankly didn’t realize how many of the tools I had been using that were part of this Inspiration Journey for me until I wrote it just a moment ago!

What I mean by how these tools can help you get to know you is that you will start to often see some sort of pattern in what you are drawn to and Inspired by.

For me, the key was to gather, play and just dive into it without judging it or over thinking it. If you are flipping through a magazine and you are drawn to an image, color, pattern, room, style or words..  don’t stop and analyze the reasons, just go with it. We will dig a bit deeper and notice later, don’t let that slow you down!

Next week we will get into one of the inspiration areas and start to explore it and the concept of how it helps you get to know you. For now, if you are looking through a magazine or catalog go ahead and tear out the stuff you are drawn to that you would not have taken the time or known what to do with before.

A peek at my 365..

Hey Creative Souls..

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I know I have mentioned project 365 before, I wanted to share what I am now doing at the end of each month, inspired by a few other creative souls on a flickr group I do a collage at the end of the month of all the images I used. I do not have many pictures on the collage of people, but I do take a bunch of pics of those around me ;-D..

I have to say that I really LOVE doing Project 365 ( ish) as I like to call it as I get to it most days but not always everyday! It has opened up things that I would not have noticed before , and it is an amazing and easy way to document different parts of your life. It has had a big hand in my growing  love of photography even if my pictures some days are not very good, it’s all part of this amazing journey.. More on all of that another time though. How about you are you doing any type of 365 or 52 ( for a photo a week) at all? What do you love about it, what are your struggles?

I wish you an Inspired, Creative and Empowered week
